A man remanded in custody in October after pleading not guilty to aggravated cannabis possession has been released from preventive arrest.

Edward Grech, 35, from Għargħur, had been arrested and charged alongside two Anne Axiak 47 and Abdillahi Jamale Hassan, 31, with possession of cannabis in circumstances indicating that the drug was not for their personal use.

Although no request for bail had been made during the arraignment, Mr Grech had put forward the request at a later stage of the proceedings.

That request was upheld on Friday by the court, presided over by magistrate Josette Demicoli, who granted bail against a deposit of €750, a personal guarantee of €8,000, an order to sign the bail book three times a week as well as an order to abide by a curfew.

The case continues.

Inspector Spiridione Zammit is prosecuting. Lawyer Ishmael Psaila is defence counsel to Mr Grech.
