On Friday, as part of European Cinema Night, Eden Cinemas is offering a free screening of the 2018 film The Apparition, directed by Xavier Gannoli of France.

The film centres on Jacques Mayano (Vincent Lindon), a journalist at a large French newspaper with a reputation as an impartial investigator, who is recruited by the Vatican to lead a canonical investigation to explore the legitimacy of a saintly apparition in a small French village.

There, he meets an 18-year-old novice named Anna (Galatéa Bellugi), who claims to have personally witnessed an apparition of the Virgin Mary. She has garnered an impressive following in the village but is torn between her faith and the many solicitations she receives. Confronted with opposing views from clergy members and sceptics, Mayano finds his belief system profoundly shaken as he works to uncover the hidden motivations and pressures at work.

European Cinema Night is an initiative aimed at celebrating the richness and diversity of European cinema, supported by the European Commission’s Media programme and co-organised in partnership with Europa Cinemas Network.

A series of screenings are being held all over Europe in 35 cinemas that are members of the Europa Cinemas Network until tomorrow.

The aim is to raise the awareness of European audiences about the programme’s ongoing support for many of Europe’s most moving, creative and thought-provoking films, from script development to distribution, including at cinemas that form part of the Europa Cinemas Network.

The Apparition will be screened at the Eden Cinemas, Paceville, on Friday  at 8.40pm.

It will be preceded by the serving of a cocktail at 8pm and a presentation at 8.30pm. A discussion will follow the film at 11pm. Admission is free but subject to booking at www.edencinemas.com.mt.
