Sebastiano D’Amico is presenting a talk tomorrow at 7.30pm on the use of 3D models and virtual reconstructions to explore remote sites without being limited to museum hours. The talk, entitled Night at the Virtual Museum, is being organised by Malta Café Scientifique at Studio B, Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta.

In his talk D’Amico will be presenting the most recent advances in accessing sites of cultural importance virtually, using results combined with 3D models and reconstructions of sites, such as the identification of potential burial sites, and the empty spaces beneath the commemorative marble slabs that decorate the flooring of St John’s Co-Cathedral.

These advances are enabling the study and presentation of sites of cultural heritagethat may be challenging to gain access to, or are too sensitive to physically study without disturbing them. This research is therefore of great interest to the scientific community and to conservation efforts.

Sebastiano D’Amico’s talk, entitled Night at the Virtual Museum, takes place tomorrow at 7.30pm, at Studio B, Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta. Attendance is free and open to all. It forms part of Malta Café Scientifique’s programme of monthly talks for 2018-19. For further information visit https://www.facebook.com/Malta.Cafe.Scientifique.
