The new health centre in Paola is to be named after former minister Vincent Moran, who died last week.

Health Minister Chris Fearne told parliament on Monday that it was fitting that the new centre would be named after Dr Moran, who was hugely popular as a doctor and a politician in Paola, and had revolutionised the health sector, not least by setting up the primary health service.

Dr Fearne and later shadow minister Stephen Spiteri both paid tribute to Dr Moran, recalling his affable character, and the respect he enjoyed as a doctor. “He was part of the family for the people of Paola,” Dr Fearne said.

Tributes were also made by PD MP Godfrey Farrugia and the Speaker, Anġlu Farrugia.

Labour MP Silvio Grixti, nephew of the late minister, thanked the House on behalf of the family.
