My husband and I are booked to fly to Vienna next month. We like to fly Air Malta and have chosen to do so again for this trip. We will be flying business class as this is more convenient.

The allocation of hold luggage for this flight in business class is 32 kilos per person. As we are both a little elderly and not particularly strong, I asked Air Malta if we could take three suitcases between us, each weighing about 20 kilos. The response was that if we wanted to take a third suitcase, the airline would charge us a further €60.

We travelled business class to Burma last Christmas with the absolutely splendid Turkish Airlines and they very happily welcomed our three suitcases. I will not enumerate the number of trips we have made when the number of suitcases was not relevant, only the total weight was significant. Even Ryanair makes concessions for those who find it difficult to carry heavy bags.
