Late collection

Organic waste bags are being collected as late as mid-afternoons (at least in an area in Rabat) instead of mid-mornings, as used to be the case with the previous daily black bag collections. This gives stray cats and dogs plenty of time to open the bags and spread their contents all over the pavements. This is certainly a matter that needs to be sorted out.

Too full

The filling station of the Kristal water bottles is in urgent need of calibration. Readers have reported that bottles, both the larger ones and the small, half-litre ones, are always full to the brim these days and opening one without spilling is impossible. It should not take much to rectify the matter, surely.

Uncivil site

What is happening at civic amenity sites? Is Wasteserv still running them or have they been left to fend on their own? The one at Mrieħel, for example, seems to have been abandoned. Glass shards, nails and other material are strewn across the circular road making it extremely difficult for motorists to navigate without damaging tyres. Employees at the site could only shrug their shoulders when asked why it was in such a mess.

Rusty state

Some roads signs in Attard are in a terrible and rusty state. The locality is obviously not close to the sea so arguments that they get worn out rapidly as a result of sea spar will just not suffice. The issue should be swiftly addressed. Could it be the fault lies in the way they are manufactured?

Building mess

It is bad enough every corner of the island has been turned into a construction site but do we now also have to deal with waste dumped by workers? In Mosta, recently, construction waste was left in a corner, where it has remained for weeks. The Occupational Health and Safety Authority says it is not responsible for the safety of workers on construction sites. Will Wasteserv now follow suit and argue that what builders do with inert waste is not part of its remit?
