A 57-year-old man skidded and smashed his car into a crash barrier in Pieta’ in the early hours of Sunday morning, with his two passengers ending up hospitalised as a result.

The Toyota Corolla crashed into a barrier on Triq ix-Xatt at around 3.15am, the police said, when its driver, a Ħamrun resident, lost control of the vehicle.

A 35-year-old Floriana resident and 38-year-old Pieta’ resident who were inside the car at the time needed medical attention and were taken to Mater Dei Hospital by ambulance, the police said. The former was gravely hurt while the latter emerged with slight injuries.

All three men are Eritrean nationals, the police said. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
