In his opening address, Malta Federation of Professional Associations president Ben Rizzo announced that the federation would soon set up a branch in Gozo.

The conference, addressed also  by Gozo Tourism Association chairman Paul Scicluna, proceeded with a presentation on the findings of a survey carried out in October among Gozitan professionals by Marika Fsadni.

The presentation was followed by a panel discussion made up of Daniel Borg, Laner Cassar, Ben Rizzo, Rosemarie Azzopardi, Marika Fsadni and Joe Muscat.

The research study concluded that nine out of 10 professionals who work in Gozo believed that they encountered difficulties/challenges which were usually not met by professionals working in Malta.

Also, two out of three professionals believed that the lack of opportunities for career advancement was a challenge for professionals working in Gozo.

Addressing the need for better connectivity between Malta and Gozo and drawing up a better strategy to attractive work opportunities in Gozo, were the most mentioned recommendations on how the situation of professionals working in Gozo could be improved.

Another must was the introduction of incentives to encourage more people to work in the hospitality and tourism sector and identifying new market niches in Gozo, including specialised tourism (wellness, health, agritourism, culture and religion), specialised medical services and IT, technology, igaming and financial services.
