Labour MP Rosianne Cutajar has filed two separate libel suits against people who allegedly denigrated her on Facebook.

Ms Cutajar filed suits against Godfrey Leone Ganado and Rachel Antoinette Williams, who she described in a subsequent statement as people “close to the Nationalist Party, especially Simon Busuttil’s faction”.

Facebook posts cited by Ms Cutajar in her libel suits allegedly liken her to a “prostitute” and “call girl”. The suits call for the court to award her damages for having been defamed and to order the two to delete the offending posts.

In a statement issued through the Labour Party, Ms Cutajar said that she was driven to file the suits after getting the sense that some people were trying to justify the insults.

Ms Cutajar, who is parliament’s youngest MP and very active on social media, said that similar posts made against people close to the PN had been immediately condemned.

“But it seems there are people who accept it if it’s directed at somebody within the Labour Party.

“I want to send a message that no woman, even those in politics, can accept this sort of attack on her dignity,” the MP said.
