The first lecture, The Building of a New City – Valletta, will be delivered by architect Claude Busuttil from the International Institute of Baroque Studies of the University of Malta.
Busuttil’s lecture will focus on the planning of the new Renaissance city, Valletta, and on the Cortonese architect Francesco Laparelli who designed its urban plan.
It will furthermore elaborate on the building of Valletta’s fortifications, palaces and houses that started to take shape soon after Grand Master Jean de Valette inaugurated the new city in March 1566.
The first lecture will be held tomorrow at 6.30pm. Admission to the lectures is free. The lectures will be followed by light refreshments.
