The following are the top stories in Malta's newspapers on Wednesday.

Times of Malta reports that according to the Malta Union of Teachers most schools fail hygiene standards. The newspaper also delves into what Neville Gafa's real job is. He last week denied he had meetings in Libya as the Prime Minister’s “special
envoy”, and says he works at the Health Ministry despite the minister saying otherwise.

The Malta Independent says the Centre for Media Pluralism and Freedom has described Daphne Caruana Galizia's murder as the darkest hour since the Charlie Hebdo shooting.

l-orizzont leads with remarks by the president of the Malta Developers' Association calling for a register of construction workers. The newspaper also says the way work was being done on a Sliema apartment block where a worker died on Monday was illegal. In other stories, the newspaper says the national debt is down by €200m. It also reports a Family Court case, where a man was said to have preferred to feed his cats than be present for his daughter's birth.

In-Nazzjon points to the high number of young people who addressed the PN General Council, saying it showed how the party wants young people in the centre of politics. It also reports that the Environment Minister has admitted Malta's failure in waste recycling.
