Vincent Zammit is delivering a repeat of his talk organised by Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar about Muslim Ottoman naval commander Dragut’s attacks on Malta before the Great Siege.

Malta was always prey to pirate attacks throughout history; however, these raids increased with the arrival of the Knights of St John. Before the Great Siege of 1565, there were several such attacks on our islands, bringing fear, destruction, loss of life, as well as people taken off to slavery. One of the most devastating was the razzia of 1551 – known as the Siege of Gozo. These events led up to the more famous Great Siege.

During his talk Mr Zammit will provide details about these events and their devastating effect on the people of Malta and Gozo.

The talk is being held at the Phoenicia Hotel, Floriana, tomorrow at 6.30pm. Tickets may be obtained at https://ticketengine.faa.org.mt .

Participants are requested to be seated by 6.15pm. The lecture will be conducted in English.

Vincent Zammit is a researcher, author and expert tourist guide. For more than 25 years he was responsible for the training of tourist guides at the Institute of Tourism Studies, Malta. His book Assedju - Ġrajja ta’ Qlubija - 1565 will be on sale at the talk.
