Photovoltaic panels are being installed on the roof of the Archbishop's Curia in Floriana as part of a drive by the Church to go green.

Some 40 Church entities including several parish offices and homes for the elderly have already installed PV systems.

The Curia said that over the past weeks, energy-saving lights and computer monitors were installed at its offices.

Its staff also took part in activities as part of the European Waste Reduction Week, including a lecture on recycling by Wasteserv officials.

Glass cups were bought instead of single use plastic cups.

The Curia said the initiatives were in line with the encyclical Laudato Si’where the Pope urged the faithful to care for their common home by taking measures against climate change and by promoting sustainable development and protecting creation.
