Three media organisations at the University of Malta have joined forces with the objective of promoting open debate while championing independence of thought.

Speak, a joint initiative between Insite Malta, The Third Eye and The Yuppie, was launched on Monday morning with a news conference held on the University campus.

The organisation aims to serve as platform for debating issues which political parties might be reluctant to discuss for partisan reasons, empower students to challenge the establishment and fight populism.

Representatives from the three media groups added that Speak aims to venture into Malta’s highly-polarised debate fora in order to provide an alternative perspective outside the influence of political parties.

Further details on the programme of activities will be announced in the coming weeks.
