MOSTA 0
BIRKIRKARA 3
Marcelinho 55, 83
Mifsud 85
Mark Miller did not enjoy a positive start at the helm of Mosta as his side were defeated 3-0 by Birkirkara at the Hibs Stadium, on Saturday.
After a lacklustre stalemate in the first 45 minutes, the second half started more lively as Mosta were trying to attack, paving the way for an end-to-end encounter.
With such an opening, the goal was inevitable and Birkirkara broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half when Marcelinho fired a long-range shot into the far post to open his Stripes’ account.
Zammit’s team continued to pile pressure on Mosta in search of a second but efforts from Petar Orlandic and Marcelinho were all diverted into corner by Andreas Vella.
Substitute Dexter Xuereb made an impact on the game with a low drive from just outside the box just to be inches wide.
Moments later, he squandered a glorious opportunity when he received the ball inside the penalty area but his effort sailed over the bar.
The closest Xuereb came was a quarter from the final whistle when Cisotti sent an inviting ball into the box but the Maltese’ s effort struck the crossbar.
These occasions came back to haunt Mosta as Birkirkara sealed the game with two goals in a minute.
First, Marcelinho scored his second of the game when he converted from the penalty spot after Tyrone Farrugia floored Matthew Guillaumier.
Michael Mifsud made it 3-0 with a solo effort inside the penalty area as he beat two markers before blasting a shot past Vella.
Marcelinho of Birkirkara was named BOV Player of the Match.
