Reference is being made to a letter regarding the Malta Institute of Accountants titled ‘Operating Licence’ (November 19) by Mario Dingli from Sliema.

The Malta Institute of Accountants can only set up an investigating committee to commence an enquiry into whether a member through the alleged actions brought the institute or the profession of accountancy into disrepute and establish if such had constituted a breach of the institute’s code of ethics and the institute’s statute and/or bye-laws.

In the case of Brian Tonna and Karl Cini, partners at Nexia BT, both have resigned their membership of the Malta Institute of Accountants more than a year ago.

Moreover, warrants are revoked only by the Accountancy Board and it is up to that board to make the necessary investigations and take actions as they deem fit.
