The time is 12.30pm on Saturday, November 17. The Gozo ferry is operating from the south quay due to the windy conditions at the other quay.

The road leading to the ferry is one lane so the cars to the ferry are at a standstill blocking any access to the ferry.

This is not only disturbing for the drivers to board the ferry but also for the numerous commuters who have to proceed on foot to the ferry in the inclement weather as the coach dropped them several hundred metres away. To complicate things further, there is no shelter for these commuters at the quay.

Everyone is silent not daring to ask what is going on – maybe these are the same ones who have voted for such chaos and reluctant to protest.

With not even a policeman in sight, all is proceeding luckily enough without any hitch. We gradually find our way near the ferry and here the staff of Gozo Channel take over.

Other staff are without any identification and merely looking on – assuming these are the persons which the previous Minister for Gozo recruited before the last election.

This is the situation which commuters and drivers have to bear especially when the ferry operates from the south quay. No one does anything to improve this shameful situation.

The Prime Minister who was leader of the Opposition prior to the 2013 election was so concerned about Gozitan commuters that he ventured to be on the ferry early one morning to meet these commuters and listen to their comments as to how things may improve.

This happened only once in about five years. Any progress?

All those who commute to Gozo and back can provide the hard-naked truth as to whether these logistic difficulties are being addressed or at least considered.

How long are we going to keep on with this situation? Will somebody from this transparent government have the guts to stand up to be counted?  Do something please. Facts speak louder than words and hollow promises.
