Charles Frederick de Brocktorff’s watercolours of the Hall of St Michael and St George date to the Ponsonby years (1827-1835). They are the earliest known portrayal of the radical changes which had been made to the newly-designated hall and capture the different uses to which the hall was put.

Theresa Vella will discuss Brocktorff’s paintings in terms of their content, highlighting the hall’s new aesthetic as designed by George Whitmore.

The public lecture, held in collaboration with the Malta Historical Society, will take place at the Malta Postal Museum, Archbishop Street, Valletta today at 6.30pm.

The museum is currently hosting an exhibition on the Order of St Michael and St George in Malta, 1818-2018.
