The Pink Fashion Show, a Times of Malta event, was held on Tuesday evening in aviation-themed surroundings, creating the setting for the top trends of the winter to take off from one of the most anticipated runways of the year.

Hundreds of guests, fashion bloggers and fashionistas, equipped with their boarding pass-style invitations, eagerly attended the show at the Intercontinental Arena, St Julian’s to watch 30 models parade the collections of 11 brands on the runway-design catwalk. This was followed by an after-party.

As soon as they arrived at the check-in desk, guests were greeted by Air Malta air hostesses and were thrilled to each receive a Go Light free flight ticket. In typical Pink Fashion Show style, they were treated to other surprises and goodies from the moment they walked through original security metal detectors.

In an announcement, they were told by their ‘captain’ to fasten their seatbelts and get ready for take-off as a screen on the runway displayed footage from the cockpit of an Air Malta plane soaring into the air.

The brands participating in The Pink Fashion Show, a twice-yearly event, showcased the best of winter wear from Charles & Keith, Cortefiel, Gerry Weber, Furla & Oltre, Lilly Mae, Noos, O’hea Opticians, Orsay, Pedro del Hierro, Samsonite and Women’secret.

From elegance to outwear – and even underwear – complete with travel accessories and luggage as befits an airport scene, it was a cross-section of styles to suit all tastes.

Hair on the 30 jet-setting models was a contemporary and edgy twist on the classical air hostess chignon, created by Wella Professionals, with the collaboration of Cutting Edge, D Salon, Gloss, Head & Jam and Unistyler hairstylists; while their make-up was by Guerlain, with a focus on understated glamour and a look to be worn with attitude.

On its fifth anniversary, The Pink Fashion Show came full circle, harking back to the very first venue, the Malta Aviation Museum, to revisit a more modern version of that theme, with the simulation of an airport environment, complete with authentic signage, seating, check-in desk, airfield light fittings and walk-through metal detectors from Malta International Airport.

Designer James Dimech created a paper dress made exclusively out of the pages of Pink – a creation that involved the use of 100 copies of the last two issues of the magazine and 48 triangular folds from the editorials to create a collar, while the tail was the most challenging with the folds fixed by hand with hot glue and stitching. The paper dress was modelled by star digital influencer Sarah Zerafa, the face of The Pink Fashion Show, who was thrilled to step from social media into the shoes of a model for the event, having done her first ever full-blown editorial photo shoot for the November issue of Pink.

The Pink Fashion Show was supported by Air Malta, Campari, Costa Coffee, Gasan Zammit, Idun Minerals, Kinnie, Mazda, Nina Ricci, Rummo and UNOde50.
