A motorcyclist was seriously injured in an accident just outside the Sta Venera tunnels on Tuesday morning.

The accident, on the south-bound lanes, caused long delays for rush-hour traffic as part of the road was closed.

The police said the 30-year-old from Birkirkara was driving a Kawasaki when he was involved in a collision with a Citroen driven by a 33-year-man from Naxxar.

A magisterial inquiry is being held.
