Further to my letter titled ‘Cancelled bus trips’ (October 29), criticising the routine cancelling of bus trips by Malta Public Transport, I would like to draw Transport Malta’s attention to the fact that this practice continued.

Passengers were waiting for the 5.49pm bus (route 54) at Attard on November 5, 2018. Close to 5.49pm a bus appeared displaying an electronic notice saying ‘Sorry not in service’, though some people could be seen onboard passengers. The bus, of course, kept going, which meant another trip was cancelled.

When the Mater Dei Hospital route bus (106) arrived at about 5.58pm, the waiting passengers decided to go to Mater Dei and catch a bus to Valletta from there.

A relative, who was among those waiting at Attard, called Malta Public Transport while on the bus to Mater Dei to report the cancelled trip. She was told the trip was not cancelled because bus 54 just passed in front of the bus stop where they had been waiting. My relative informed the company that bus displayed a ‘Sorry not in service’ notice and did not pick up any passengers.

Transport Malta must wake up and monitor the bus service because Malta Public Transport is taking us all for a ride by cancelling trips every day. Will it take any action or just close its eyes and keep paying for cancelled trips?
