I am amazed, and disappointed, that the Times of Malta, instead of investigating how true are the accusations levelled at Nationalist MEP David Casa, has instead turned on the fact that the whistleblower wrote the letters he sent to Olaf and the Attorney General at MaltaToday’s offices, using their equipment.

We have always been told that journalists protect their sources’ identity. So what has Saviour Balzan done wrong by taking all the necessary steps, not only to verify that the accusations the whistleblower was making were based on facts and not assumptions but also to ensure that the whistleblower’s confidentiality was protected?

I am sure that had similar extremely grave accusations been made under oath against one of Labour’s MEPs, the Times of Malta would have acted differently.

Meanwhile, Casa continues to deny by issuing a simple statement but continues to fail taking any legal action. Is Casa afraid of testifying under oath?
