BIRKIRKARA               1

Hibernians joined Gżira United at the top of the BOV Premier League table thanks to a 2-1 win over Birkirkara.

Hibernians managed to take the lead on the 9th minute. Following a Jurgen Degabriele corner from the left, it was Birkirkara striker Petar Orlandic who tried to anticipated fellow goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski as the Macedonian was about to grab the ball, deflecting it into the net for an own goal.

The rest of the first half was rather shabby with hardly any shot at goal although the Paolites had more ball possession.

The second half produced better football and on the 47th minute, off a cross by Cain Attard from the right, there was a short cleareance with the ball reaching Mislav Andjelkovic whose powerful drive ended just wide.

Birkirkara restored equilibrium when Matthew Guillaumier’s cross from the right was met by Hibs defender Nemanja Radojevic who headed the ball down but the ball fell in the path of Jake Grech who hit low past Andrew Hogg from close range.

Hibernians, however, regained the lead on the 75th minute when off a throw-in from the left, Tiago exchanged the ball with Taylon before hitting the ball past Hogg into the bottom left corner.

Hibernians' Jurgen Degabriele was named BOV Player of the match.
