Traditional St Martin’s fair in Tarxien

For the second consecutive year, after an absence of 75 years, Tarxien will once again be holding a traditional St Martin’s fair tomorrow.

Folklore and tradition will take centre stage at the village’s playground and surrounding streets.

There will be traditional food, aniseed-infused coffee and imbuljuta, a cocoa-and chestnut hot drink, from an old recipe handed down by some Tarxien elders.

The day kicks off at 10.30am with Mass out in the open, during which the children’s boroż ta’ San Martin (full of nuts and goodies) will be bless. There will also be a varied programme of events which will include dancing, band marches, and music.

Tombola, traditional artefacts, wine making and lace making will also be on show. Christmas decorations will be on sale. A meal, based on traditional rabbit dishes, will be served at 1pm.

The fair is being put up by the Għaqda Mużikali Marija Annunzjata ta’ Ħal Tarxien with the collaboration of the local council.
