Registered full-time employment in June increased by 5.5% while part-time employment as a primary job increased by 1.3% when compared to the same month in 2017.

The National Statistics Office said that according to administrative data provided by Jobsplus, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) in June increased by 5.1%, reaching 205,771, over a one-year period.

This was mainly attributed to a year on year increase in the full-time gainfully occupied population (10,667) and a decline in registered unemployment.

In May, the full-time gainfully occupied population stood at 202,929; an increase of 5.9% when compared to a year earlier. During the same period, registered unemployment decreased by 28.4% reaching 1,791. The labour supply for May registered an increase of 5.5% over May 2017.

In June, professional, scientific and technical activities and administrative and support service activities contributed mostly to the increase in employment with 1,465 and 1,274 persons respectively, compared to June 2017.

Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up by 9,530 persons to 156,926. Public sector full-time employment increased by 1,137 persons to 47,067.

The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 1,175 when compared to June 2017, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 9,492. Full-time employment for males and females went up by 4.5% and 7.2% respectively over 2017.

Registered part-time employment in June went up by 4% when compared to a year earlier. The sectors that contributed most to the overall increase were professional, scientific and technical activities and arts, entertainment and recreation.

On the other hand, administrative and support services activities registered a drop of 327 when compared to June 2017.

The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 27,238, up by 7.9% when compared to the corresponding month in 2017. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 35,864, up by 1.3% when compared to 2017.
