In November 5, 1943, that is, 75 years ago, many bombs rained down on the Vatican City State. In the view of Augusto Ferrera, the author of a book titled 1943: Bombs on the Vatican, the principal purpose for such a bombing was simply to destroy Vatican Radio and its mission to keep hope alive and aid families by broadcasting messages to prisoners of war.

It is the Church’s mission to keep Christ’s hope alive for the entire humanity. Jesus himself said to his apostles: “What I tell you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear whispered, proclaim upon the housetops” (Matt 10:27).

Moreover, Jesus’s promise to Peter is undisputed: “And I tell you, you are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church and the powers of death shall not prevail against it” (Matt 16:18).

Can the Church really ever be silenced from proclaiming the whole saving truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
