A man who allegedly damaged the front door of a Valletta house and slightly injured one of its occupants was granted bail after pleading not guilty to multiple charges stemming from a long-drawn out argument.

Clyde Bonavia, a 34-year old Valletta resident, was arrested after three incidents which occurred over the past three weeks, the earliest one early in the morning of October 13 when he allegedly threatened one of the occupants of the house, slightly injuring him.

The second incident took place a fortnight later when the man damaged the front door of the same residence, causing the three occupants to fear violence, making excessive threats and breaching public peace.

The last incident was at the Valletta police station two days ago, where the man refused to obey legitimate police orders, head butted a window pane and shattered the glass.

Prosecuting Inspector Priscilla Caruana Lee informed the court that the victims wanted to recover the expenses suffered and were insisting on protection by a court order.

“I’ll pay the damage and I don’t need to talk to them,” declared the man, gesturing with both hands to indicate that the matter was closed.

After hearing submissions by both parties, duty magistrate Monica Vella, upheld a request for bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €5,000, and a curfew.

The court placed the man under a temporary protection order warning him that he was not to approach the three victims in any manner.

Lawyer Graziella Tanti was legal aid counsel.
