I agree with Mary Shephard (‘Bitter aftertaste’, October 31).
In Malta, we have a tendency of overdoing things, be it a village feast, football celebrations, etc. Take Daphne Caruana Galizia’s memorial in Valletta, for example. Does a memorial need to last that long?
As the Maltese saying goes, overdoing something has the same wrong effect as doing nothing at all.
The case of the traffic policeman too was exaggerated. It’s a common fact that when one joins the police force one has to be prepared to face dangerous situations, the same as journalists because once their pen goes beyond the limit they will be targeted.
Both Daphne and the policeman chose their own profession and knew better than anyone else what their job entailed.
