It is unbelievable that, recently, the actions of a single drunk lady made a jet return to Heathrow an hour into its transatlantic flight to Washington. A staggering £4,000 worth of fuel had to be dumped, plus all the problems for passengers that go into catching another plane. It is no joke having to miss a connecting flight, especially when it is due to a single drunk person.

All flights, especially long haul, should not be operated without air marshals. One can imagine what to expect with all those passengers, tight as sardines, for tempers to flare once something happens. If it is not a drunk person, it is a fight, or some other serious case. Air marshals are trained to handle and subdue the culprit in such an eventuality.

So how come the United Airlines jet in question did not have any security on board?
