▪ Before agreeing to a purchase consumers should take note of the name of the person they are speaking to and gather information on the product or service offered for sale.

▪ The 14-day cooling-off period within which consumers may cancel a sale applies when goods or services are bought over the phone.

▪ When consumers are properly informed by traders they may be requested to pay the cost of returning unwanted goods.

▪ Sellers are legally required to identify themselves and the purpose of the call at the beginning of the telephone conversation.

▪ To be legally binding telesales must be confirmed in writing.

▪ Goods bought over the phone have the same legal protection as products bought in a shop.
