Hudson Group has opened a new 350sqm Nike store at Level -2 of The Point Shopping Complex.

The store replaces the previous Nike store on Level 0 within the same complex and displays a wider range of men’s and women’s footwear and apparel.

 “We’re thrilled to be opening this new Nike store and bringing the best of Nike products. Through this store, which size and design is at par with Nike stores found in other European cities, we seek to provide the best of the brand to our customers as well as a unique design and environment,” said Kevin Grech, Hudson retail director.

The first pair of Nikes sold in Malta was in 1987. Since then, Hudson has sought to increase Nike’s reach both in Malta as well as in Africa. Through its head office in Malta as well as its subsidiary companies in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, BDI (part of Hudson) manages most of Nike in Africa as far as sales, marketing and distribution go.

‘Made Simple, by Mazars’

Mazars Malta, a member firm of international audit and advisory group Mazars, is organising the third of its 2018 series of information sessions branded ‘Made Simple, by Mazars’ on November 15. The upcoming workshop, which will be held at The Victoria Hotel, Palazzo Capua in Sliema, will tackle the setting up of the internal audit function within iGaming companies.

The objective of the ‘Made Simple, by Mazars’ sessions is to make it possible and convenient for end-customers to receive practical information by professionals, particularly from a fiscal, financial and regulatory perspective, which can help them make the right decisions for their business and for their own personal well-being. 

The forthcoming session is specifically targeted at directors, heads of compliance, chief financial officers, and heads of legal services of iGaming companies in Malta.

Mazars Malta partner Alan Craig said: “Our workshop will deal with how to ensure compliance with all regulations and best practices relating to iGaming legislation with respect to internal auditing. We shall be discussing the pre-requisites for  establishing an internal audit function, as well as the different internal audit function arrangements and set-ups.”

New council and chairman for Malta’s Institute of Directors

The Institute of Directors Malta Branch has elected a new chairman and vice chairman, Edwin Ward and James Arrigo respectively.

A new council was also elected, namely, Christian Vassallo, strategy director at Vassallo Builders Group of Companies, Geraint Davies, partner, EY Malta, James Grech, director, Bank of Valletta, James Arrigo, director at Marina Milling, James Satariano, chairman, Satariano Properties, and Edwin Ward, chairman of the Paragon Group and CEO at Ogilvy Malta.

 Outgoing chairman James Satariano thanked James Arrigo for his hard work throughout his chairmanship and said he was happy to pass the responsibility as chairman on to the next generation.

Mr Ward said: “I would like to thank James Satariano for pioneering the introduction of corporate governance to Malta, and for organising so many high-profile events over the years including the Commonwealth Corporate Governance Conference and the 20th European Corporate Governance Conference. I am looking forward to working with a talented new council to represent directors in Malta, improve director education, create dialogue with institutions on corporate governance issues and help create a better business environment.”

IoD’s next event, on November 22, will be ‘Cryptocurrencies and blockchain: Implications for financial crime, money laundering and tax evasion’. A keynote speech will be given by Prof. Robby Houben, chair of company and financial law at the University of Antwerp.

Global Payments in agreement with UnionPay in Malta
