MOSTA             0

HIBERNIANS   4

Taylon 19; Fonseca 38

Kristensen 66; Tenorio 90

Hibernians broke little sweat to overcome Mosta to go second in the Premier League standings, two points adrift of leaders Gżira United.

It was Hibernians who took the ground running and they almost struck after six minutes of play.

Degabriele sped into the area and tried to round Mosta goalkeeper Andreas Vella but he lost control of the ball and the chance went abegging.

Five minutes later, the Mosta no. 1 was the protagonist when he somehow kept out a firm header from Nemanja Radojevic.

Two minutes later, Joseph Mbong tried his luck from the distance but his effort finished just over.

Mosta were now increasingly on the ropes and on 19 minutes Taylon headed the ball firmly towards goal but Tyrone Farrugia was on hand to clear off the line.

Hibs found the breakthrough on 21 minutes when Degabriele fed Taylon and the Brazilian forward did well to move past his marker before hitting past Vella.

Mosta should have restored equilibrium on 28 minutes when Zachary Brincat was suddenly through on goal but was denied by the onrushing Andrew Hogg, the Hibs goalkeeper.

Hibs got the second goal their dominance deserved on 38 minutes. Mbong sent a cross towards Fonseca and the Brazilian headed past Vella.

On 50 minutes Brincat hit a thumping drive from the edge of the area that flew just over.

Five minutes later, the young Mosta forward sped into the area but his effort was somehow kept out by Hogg.

Any hopes Mosta might have had of coming back into the match were ended on 66 minutes when Degabriele found Bjorn Kristensen and the Malta midfielder hit a thumping drive that gave no chance to Mosta goalkeeper Vella.

Hibs should have wrapped up the points four minutes from time when Mosta’s Dexter Xuereb upended Degabriele inside the area and referee Stefan Pace pointed to the spot. But from the resultant penalty Fonseca’s effort came off the upright.

But that was just a temporary reprieve for Mosta as in stoppage time Guttiner Costa Tenorio, who had replaced Taylon, beat Vella with a low drive from the edge of the area.
