BIRKIRKARA 2

Mifsud 39,90

SLIEMA WANDERERS 0

Michael Mifsud came back to haunt their former club when he netted all goals in a comfortable 2-0 win over Sliema.

Sliema opened vehemently in a bid to obtain an early breakthrough. Their first telling raid came after 17 minutes when Jefferson had tested Kristijan Naumovski with an angled drive.

The Stripes goalkepeer was then called to pull off a remarkable save when he flung himself to his right to turn around the post a shot by Killian Amehi.

Six minutes from resumption, Birkirkara went ahead. They won a corner on the left, Grech played the ball in for Mifsud to head past Galea.

Past the hour mark, referee Glen Tonna was not indulgent with Chapoval who was dismissed for a second bookable offence after tackling Amehi recklessly, forcing the Stripes to play the final 30 minutes with a man less.

A weak header from Kurt Shaw failed to threaten Naumovski. On the side, Mifsud sealed the issue when he buried the ball behind Galea after receiving a perfect pass from Franca. To add to Sliema’s woes, Amehi was also given the marching orders.

Mifsud was voted the BOV player of the match.
