A motorcyclist expressed his heartfelt thanks to an off-duty police officer and two men from the Transport Malta Enforcement unit who helped him on Thursday after he was involved in a traffic accident.

The man fell off his motorcycle after braking abruptly at the Santa Venera tunnel, after one of the drivers in front of him suddenly slammed the brakes.

"In an effort to avoid hitting the car in front of me, due to the terrible road conditions caused by the rain, I pressed the brakes a bit harder than I should have, causing me to lose control of my motorcycle," the driver, M. Grima, said.

"I was immediately helped by an off-duty officer from the Drug Squad, in addition to two men from the Transport Malta Enforcement Unit, as well as a fellow biker".

"The amount of care and dedication they showed me was immense and they instantly radioed an ambulance because they were worried I had suffered from serious injuries.

"However, after assuring them I was fine, except for my hand which I had injured, they escorted me to work to ensure I got there safely. The biker also helped tend to me until I recovered from the shock," Mr Grima said.

Mr Grima unfortunately does not know the name of the police officer and the men from the Transport Malta Enforcement Unit who helped him, but nonetheless wanted to express his gratitude.

The police Community and Media Relations Unit said when contacted they had not been informed of the case.

"I do not have the words to thank these individuals for the treatment that they provided me with,” Mr Grima said. He also noted police officers get a considerable amount of backlash on a daily basis.

However, he pointed out, "ultimately, they are constantly providing a service to the community which is regularly gone unnoticed".
