Plans to rehabilitate open spaces in Siġġiewi, Naxxar, Dingi and Ħamrun have been given the green light by the Planning Authority.

In Siġġiewi, planners approved proposals to rehabilitate Għar Lapsi park, which will be embellished with a ball games area on its upper terrace and a new playing field.

The existing picnic area will be relocated while various trees and shrubs will be planted, with a marble art installation and new lighting system.

Naxxar’s urban area will get a new open space featuring an outdoor gym and street furniture, while in Dingli, the PA approved plans to build a new garden, outdoor gym and car park on a 2,000 square metre site next to the Dingli Swallows’ football pitch. An underground reservoir will be dug up for irrigation purposes.

In Ħamrun, a new pedestrian piazza and landscaped area will be built along Triq il-Franġiskani while the adjacent road and parking area will be upgraded and embellished. Street furniture and planters will enhance the piazza, the PA said in a statement announcing the works.
