The MSE Equity Price Index lost 0.4 per cent to a three-week low of 4,451.734 points as several equities trended lower while only GlobalCapital registered a gain.

Volumes across the equity market were subdued as only €0.1 million worth of shares traded.

Bank of Valletta plc moved 0.7 per cent lower to the €1.34 level across 14,907 shares.

Likewise, MIDI plc also retreated by 0.7 per cent to the €0.725 level on three deals totalling 33,000 shares.

Within the same segment, Malta Properties Company plc tumbled by just over 11 per cent to €0.505 while Plaza Centres plc shed 1 per cent to €1.02. Both equities traded on insignificant volumes.

Low trading activity also took place in GO plc and Santumas Shareholdings plc. GO dropped by 1 per cent to the €3.96 level whilst Santumas ended 4.3 per cent lower at €1.35.

In contrast, GlobalCapital plc surged 4 per cent to the €0.262 level albeit on just 960 shares.

Meanwhile, HSBC Bank Malta plc closed unchanged at the €1.80 level after failing to hold on to an intra-day high of €1.81 (+0.6 per cent). A total of 15,789 shares traded.

A single deal of 4,100 shares left the equity of Malta International Airport plc at the €6.20 level.

The RF MGS Index extended Tuesday's decline by a further 0.08 per cent to 1,085.212 points. Malta Government Stock price movements were mostly driven by a rebound in the yields of German government bonds while those of peripheral countries drifted lower.

On the economic front, German retail sales tumbled 2.6 per cent year-on-year in September (the sharpest drop in over five years) and the unemployment rate in Italy rose more than expected to back above the 10 per cent mark. On the other hand, preliminary data showed that inflation in the eurozone continued to recover and is now at its highest level in almost six years of 2.2 per cent.
