Soprano Marisa Galea will perform her debut concert today at noon at St Augustine church, Valletta.

During the concert, entitled Charming Songs, Galea will sing a varied repertoire of operatic and eclectic arias ranging from the Baroque to the Bel Canto.

The programme features romantic songs such as Gaetano Donizetti’s Ah Tardi Troppo from his opera Linda da Chamounix, the dramatic Piangero la sorte mia, an excerpt from George Fredric Handel’s Giulio Cesare, the aria The Rose and the Nightingale, subtitled Eastern Song, from Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera Sadko, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Zdes’ khorosho, and Jacques Offenbach’s Les oiseaux dans la charmille  from Les Contes d’ Hoffmann.

During the concert, pianist Ramona Zammit Formosa will also perform two piano solos – Schubert’s Impromptu in A flat and Glinka’s The Prayer.

After the concert, visitors will be offered a free guided tour of the adjacent monastery chambers and museum. 

Soprano Marisa Galea’s debut concert takes place today at noon at St Augustine church, Old Bakery Street, Valletta. Proceeds from the event will go towards the restoration project of the Augustinian monastery. Tickets are available from the venue half an hour before the concert begins.
