ST ANDREWS                  1

Borg 90

SENGLEA ATHLETIC         2

Tcanturia 45

Volpini 60

Senglea Athletic secured their first league win of the season when they surprised St Andrews with a goal in each half at the Centenary Stadium.

It was St Andrews who controlled the proceedings in the first half and on 11 minutes Travis Blasgrove saw his shot finish just past the upright.

On 24 minutes, Amoy Brown exchanged the ball with Kevaugh Atkinson but his thumping drive was well saved by Matthew Farrugia, the Senglea goalkeeper.

But it was Senglea who ended the half stronger when on 43 minutes Leighton Grech saw his headed effort cleared off the line by Ricardo Martin.

Two minutes later, the Senglea winger made more damage when he was upended in the area by by Martin and from the spot Romani Tcanturia blasted the ball into the net.

On the restart, Martin Davis came close but his curling drive just missed the bar.

However, it was Senglea who doubled their lead on the hour. Brian Volpini sped clear on the right and beat Matthew Calleja Cremona with a low drive.

Ten minutes from time, Senglea were reduced to ten men when Rene Caceres was shown a straight red card for a rash challenge on Pulo.

St Andrews did manage to pull a goal back in stoppage time when Adrian Borg headed home from a Joseph Farrugia free-kick.

But that was too little too late as the Cottonera side held on for the win.
