A €400,000 water conservation educational service was launched on Thursday to train business employees in sustainable practices in water management.

The programme, which launched Thursday, will run two weekly sessions until the end of 2019.

During the sessions, experts will lecture employees from various businesses on water management. Speaking at the launch of the event, HSBC human resources head Caroline Buhagiar said the bank wanted to launch the initiative because the company wanted to leave a better legacy.

"We have invested more than €1 million in the past years in water conservation and we wanted to speak to other companies to encourage them to join in," she said.

The bank will also install 12 water fountains across schools in Malta.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative at the Għajn Water Conservation Centre, Energy Minister Joe Mizzi thanked the company for the initiative, saying it would help ensure more sustainable businesses.

He said education was key in ensuring better water management.
