The Foodbank Lifeline Foundation has launched a new website as it gears up to run its second Reverse Advent Calendar campaign this Christmas. The foundation, which distributes urgent food supplies to people in need, was overwhelmed by the success of its imaginative campaign last year which saw thousands of people donating food in the run up to the festive season.

To help promote and streamline the organisation’s efforts, Foodbank Lifeline has recently undergone a rebranding exercise culminating in a new web portal, the design and development of which was sponsored by Izola Bank.

The new website allows care professionals to enter quick referrals online. Visitors can also access information on how to help Foodbank Lifeline and catch up on the latest updates, while people in need can follow the steps required to obtain a referral. The website also provides information to schools, companies and individuals who want to get involved in this year’s Reverse Advent Calendar campaign, which Izola Bank is also supporting.

The Reverse Advent Calendar Campaign remains the main food drive campaign of the year for Foodbank Lifeline and the support of Izola Bank is instrumental in this important project.

The Foodbank Lifeline Foundation, situated in Old Bakery Street, Valletta, has been operating since the summer of 2015 and works alongside care professionals in social services and with NGOs such as Appoġġ, Sedqa and Caritas Malta, who are experienced in supporting people facing short-term crisis situations. The organisation relies solely on the support of the public, whether through general food or monetary donations, sponsorships, involvement from schools or even just people willing to donate some free time to help sort and distribute the food.

Foodbank Lifeline provides packs of food directly to people referred to them. Each pack contains essential foods needed for an individual, couple or family to get through the week such as long-life milk, cooking oil, tinned fruit and vegetables, pasta, rice, sauces and soups. A detailed shopping list to help guide people on the type of food which is needed is also available on the new website. No fresh food can be distributed for logistical purposes.

Rev. Kim Hurst, the founder and chairwoman of the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation, said: “Last year’s Reverse Advent Calendar was a great success thanks to the support of Izola Bank. And now with the launch of our new website, I am confident that we can continue to gain awareness about the important work we do and in turn receive the much-needed support we need to be able to operate.”

The bank’s CEO Andrew Mifsud re-confirmed the company’s commitment to helping Foodbank Lifeline: “Izola Bank has been supporting St Andrew’s Scots Church and the Foodbank Lifeline Foundation since early 2017. Understanding the importance of the work conducted by the foundation, we have looked at ways in which we could offer support beyond one-off financial donations. We soon realised that assisting to improve their web presence would be more beneficial in the longer-term. We now look forward to helping raise awareness for this year’s Reverse Advent Calendar initiative.”
