A new investment will offer Gozo a secure supply and drastically improved quality water, while ensuring the sustainability of the island's water table, the Water Services Corporation has assured.

The corporation said it had awarded the tender for the development of a state-of-the-art reverse osmosis in Gozo and that it has also issued another €10 million tender to distribute new water in the south of Malta through a 43 km network and 242 automated dispensers.

The reverse osmosis will have the capacity to produce 9,000 cubic meters of fresh high quality water per day. Gozo has so far predominantly depended on ground water and on a submarine pipeline from Malta.

Both projects form part of the corporation's €130 million project part financed by the European Union.

The Gozo reverse osmosis has been awarded to AST - Clean Water Technologies for a value of €11 million.

AST has a worldwide presence with headquarters in Israel.

Works on the project are expected to start soon, the corporation said.
