The Leone Philharmonic Society, together with the Cathedral parish of Victoria, are organising the feast of St Ursula, patron saint of Gozo. A programme of events taking place tomorrow will include music in both votive liturgy and festive celebration.
According to tradition in the fifth century, St Ursula was a British princess who was part of one of the Peregrinatio Pro Christo movements (Christian Pilgrimage). She was killed by the Huns tribe near Cologne for preaching against the Germanic faith.
Gozitans started to pray for the intervention of St Ursula in cases of widespread deadly diseases, earthquakes and drought.
The procession is taking place after an absence of 51 years. There will be a folkloristic feast from 9.30am, with highlights being the procession at 10.15am, high Mass at 10.30am, a parade at 11.30am, an organ concert and a talk about the cult of St Ursula at 4pm.
The events will be taking place tomorrow at the Gozo Cathedral, Ċittadella, Victoria.
