Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said following an EU leaders summit in Brussels that time was pressing on Brexit but no conclusions had been reached.

In a statement on Thursday, the Prime Minister said the Irish border issue remained the biggest stumbling block in talks.

According to various reports on Wednesday, EU leaders agreed in Brussels that not enough progress had been achieved in the talks, and that plans for a special summit next month to sign off on a Brexit deal had been shelved.

In his statement, Dr Muscat said he would not "speculate" on the fate of the November summit, but that it remained to be seen whether a solution to the Irish border impasse could be achieved.

"We're not in a position to say whether we will get there in November or later; what's clear is that time is now pressing hard," Dr Muscat said.
