I refer to the letter ‘British but European’ by Elizabeth Genton Eames (October 10).

Allow me to recall what Tony Blair (above with the author), who was joined by Tory MPs Kenneth Clarke and Michael Haseltine, said at the launch of the ‘Britain in Europe’ campaign: “We make this case not because we are pro-Europe... we make it because we are pro-Britain. To be part of Europe is in the national interest. This is a patriotic cause. The people here represent a patriotic alliance that puts country before party”.
