The iconic Azure Window, in Dwejra, which attracted a record 1.1 million hits when timesofmalta.com reported its collapse in March last year, has been immortalised in an etching by the Salesians of Don Bosco.
Artist Justin Falzon used two etching techniques – soft-ground etching and aquatint – to produce the work. It is printed on 285gr Fabriano Rosaspina Bianca.
“The limited special edition is being made available to the public as a Christmas distinctive gift,” a spokesman for the Salesians said.
Fifty original prints, each numbered, signed by the artist and framed, will be available against a donation of €300, all proceeds in aid of St Patrick’s Salesian School, Sliema.
Those interested can reserve a copy by calling Fr Charles Cini on 7949 2555 or sending an e-mail to charlescini@gmail.com.
Mr Falzon, who specialises in drawing, painting and printmaking, studied at the Lorenzo de Medici Art Institute, in Florence, where he obtained a degree in fine arts.
In 2016, two of his etchings were exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, Summer Exhibition, and at the Bankside Gallery, The Masters Etching, in London. He was also part of iMprint I,II,&III, a collective exhibition of graphic works by Maltese and international printmakers organised every two years.
