In the letter titled ‘Unsportsmanship act award’ (September 29), Herbert Messina-Ferrante was quick to condemn both Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for not having attended for Luka Modric’s celebration who had won the Player Of the Year at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

He goes on to say that Ronaldo had no excuse since he has his own private jet. (I am sure Messi can afford to fly to London and back, even at his expense.) What amazes me is that the correspondent was quick to write and to declare their action was one of non-sportsmanship. He found four excuses they could have made so as not to attend. He therefore expects them to lie because they did not attend.

I am amazed how a person can speak badly about others and, at the same time, expect them to lie and find excuses that are nothing less than brazenly obvious lies.

How on earth does the correspondent know why the two could not attend? You have to be cheeky.
