The country may be prospering but it is the government’s duty to distribute national wealth and make sure that those at all levels of society are looked after, the Malta Employers’ Association president Doris Sammut Bonnici insisted.

The MEA has put wage inflation at the core of its wish-list for the forthcoming Budget, warning that employers could not give raises to help employees cope with rising rents, as that was the remit of government policy.

In an interview to appear on Wednesday, Ms Sammut Bonnici also stressed that the situation would not be so acute if there were more social housing.
