Valletta FC are anxiously waiting a response from Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt after the new owners of the Malta football champion club offered the Jamaican a two-year contract earlier this week.

Ali Mohammed Saied, representing Valletta FC owners Sanban Group, confirmed to the Times of Malta yesterday that the Dubai-based network has made an offer in their bid to lure Bolt to the Maltese Premier League.

“We are hopeful a deal will be reached,” Mr Saied said.

Bolt, 32, is currently in Australia practising with A-League side Central Coast Mariners. He scored two goals in a friendly last week.

“I can confirm that our CEO has put forward an offer to Usain Bolt and we are waiting for his answer,” Mr Saied said.

“We are really excited with the possibility of bringing over a legendary sports figure like Usain Bolt to Valletta FC and if he agrees we will gladly make it happen.

“We know it is Bolt’s dream to launch a career in football and we want to help him make it happen. He won several gold medals in his career in athletics and I don’t see why he cannot achieve more success in football.”
