The Superintendent of Cultural Heritage says that San Ġwann has the richest surviving collection of archaeological sites, comprising Punic, Roman, Saracen and medieval remains. So I wouldn’t at all be surprised if there are archaeological remains where the roads are being widened at Triq Tal-Balal without a development permit. Underground structures have already been discovered.

Why is the heritage watchdog not permitted to make recommendations to mitigate possible threats to any historical remains in the area?

Have we come to a point where the Culture Heritage Act is being completely ignored?

Is nothing sacred any more?
