It was unexpected but the students of San Andrea’s early and middle school just loved it.

Teachers and administration staff yesterday morning set out to surprise students as they returned to their desks on their first day of school.

The 700 students received the star treatment as they walked up the red carpet while being cheered by their biggest ‘fans’ – the school staff.

Also welcoming the children was Ilio the service dog who missed his friends throughout the summer months.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse were also present for this activity, greeting the students, taking photos and receiving many hugs.

Posters with endearing slogans and welcome back messages lined the corridors and stairs, while class teachers also prepped up their classrooms for the big day.

Head of early and middle school, Stefania Bartolo, joined her entire team.

“We look forward to a year filled with excitement and many more surprises,” she said as she welcomed the students.
